Flood barrier height should be selected from the expected water level at the opening, threshold or slab elevation, drainage behavior, uncertainty in the water estimate, the selected system's documented operating range, and the structure available for support. There is no universal catalog height that is appropriate for every Florida property.
Freeboard should come from an applicable design basis, not marketing padding.
A removable barrier may be inappropriate when expected water exceeds the system's documented operating range, the opening cannot provide adequate support or sealing surfaces, water can readily bypass the protected plane, deployment cannot be completed before an event, or the site requires a permanent engineered mitigation strategy.
